A classic Sakai musket with long well forged octagonal barrel and onion muzzle with copper and brass muzzle ring and silver highlights. Pierced integral rear sight with silver foresight. Brass handcover and brass fence. Brass lock of characteristic form with long brass serpent and mainspring held by a chrysanthemum. Sakai helmet at breech. Figured Japanese oak stock inlaid with chrysanthemums. Rabbit, prunus branch and shidori (birds). CONDITION: Bore is rough. Barrel has even age brown patina with some raised rust. Brass is good. Lock functions properly. Stock is good except for approximately 1/4" has been removed just behind the muzzle ring. A good Sakai matchlock.
