This rare American flintlock dueler is much like English flintlock dueling pistols of the same period. Long octagonal barrel is deeply rifled and signed Tryon Philadelphia. The signed bolted lock with push-on safety is engraved in the English fashion. Swan neck cock engraved en suite. Spurred trigger guard with pineapple finial engraved in the English fashion. Walnut half stock finely checkered at wrist, with horn forend. CONDITION: Barrel is refinished throughout, with markings somewhat obscured. Lock in good crisp condition, with clear engraving and good markings. Stock with coat of varnish and repaired split on left side. Forend tip considerably damaged. Action of hammer is crisp. Ramrod appears to be original, with brass ferrule and brass worm. Bore is excellent, with multi-groove spiral rifling. Operates correctly. A high quality American dueling pistol likely assembled from British components. From the Robert Sadler Collection.
