Military three band pattern percussion target rifle with patchbox and 400 meter graduated rear sight. Engraved patchbox, lock, hammer, trigger guard, lock screw heads, barrel tang, lock screw escutcheons, nose cap and buttplate. Checkered fore and aft. Marked on top of the barrel "WHITWORTH-PATENT" behind the rear sight and "I. HOLLIS & SONS. LONDON." in front of it. Unique Whitworth hexagonal rifling. The ramrod, hammer screw and rear lock plate screw are replacements as is possibly the rear sling swivel. Bands are period, possibly replaced. The front sight appears to be restored. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina overall with some areas of minor pitting. Markings are clear. Engraving is good. Wood appears to have been lightly cleaned at one time, checkering is soft. There is an expertly done repair to the wood between the lock and barrel. The bore is dark with well defined rifling. Fine mechanical function. GR
