Rare, one of 7,300 manufactured Colt Model 1883 double barrel shotguns made between 1883 and 1895. Gun has damascus barrels with matted concave rib with Colt address, case hardened boxlock receiver with line engraving, figured round knob pistol grip walnut stock, Colt monogrammed buttplate, checkered walnut forearm with latch release and ebony inlay. Gun has extractors, double triggers and automatic safety. Original silver stock shield with no markings. CONDITION: Barrels retain 60% damascus finish with several scuffs and a rub mark on the bottom of the left barrel. Bores are excellent with mirror finish. Action retains 50% of fading case colors with screws being turned and slightly damaged. Trigger guard has 40% original blue with sharp engraving. Wood retains 60% original finish with handling dings and no cracks. Checkering on stock is sharp with minor wear marks. Forearm checkering is sharp but has several spots worn flat from usage. Action is tight and the gun is mechanically solid.
