Colt Model 1851 Navy RTevolver , cal, 36 percussion with 7 1/2 inch octagon barrel and one piece walnut grips. With brass back strap engraved "KIT CARSON I.A. TAOS NEW MEXICO TER."Gun was produced in 1854 witch coincides with Kit Carson appointment as an Indian Agent for the Utes in 1853. This gun was purchases in the 1990's by a Montana firearms collector in New Mexico from a family friend to whom he purchased a civil war sword and several other items. A short note of his purchasing these items is included.CONDITION, Fair . The gun has a plumb patina overall and shows considerable use. The gain twist bore is slightly dark but ha strong rifling. The one piece walnut grips are full sized with a very minor chip at the front toe. The action is in good working order and functions properly. The markings are crisp and legible as is the inscription on the tang. This revolver is sold with out any warranty as to the authenticity of the engraving or its linage.
