Caliber .42 bore, Barrel length 32”. Typical mid -19th century, half stock sporting rifle with full octagon barrel. Features; long tang rear sight, simple blade front, solid under barrel rib, three metal retaining thimbles, one brass, brass trigger guard, full brass heel plate from butt to guard, brass butt plate, simple brass patch box, square nickel thumb plate, tapped hole for lollipop sight, decorative star on left side stock with PA cheek piece, checkered wrist and brass forend cap. Barrel is retained by way of two wedges with nickel escutcheons. Percussion lock is stamped “J. Dana & Co. Warranted”. Rifle is not signed. J Dana is listed as a Flintlock Kentucky maker, location is not noted. Lock and barrel are a mix of gun metal grey with aged patina. Lock plate and hammer are lightly engraved. Stock is very good to excellent with minor chipping at plate, 1/2” crack at base, small “TV” carved in forend and a couple of stress cracks on left side of breech. Working condition.
