Known as the "Mississippi Rifle", this gun was manufactured by Eli Whitney of New Haven, Connecticut with a 1852 dated percussion lock with "N. Haven" above date at rear of lock. The lock is also marked "E. Whitney" with "US" surcharge underneath. Round rifled barrel with two brass bands, bayonet lug and correct cartouches at rear. Two blade rear flip sight with larger marked "500" and front blade sight. Walnut musket style stock with brass furniture including two piece brass patchbox and "US" marked brass buttplate. Original ramrod and sling swivels. CONDITION: Fine original condition with no visible restoration. Brass possibly polished years ago and has now faded to a golden patina. Solid gun except hammer does not stay cocked. Missing extra nipple and worm attachment. DLM CORRECTION: After further research, we believe that this gun has been rebarreled. Please also note that this gun is in .58 caliber, not .54. Title updated
