This little revolver was actually manufactured by Plant's Manufacturing Company of New Haven, Connecticut and were financed by Merwin & Bray of New York and carried various private maker marks such as this. Can also be found marked "MERWIN & BRAY" or "REYNOLDS, PLANT, HOTCHKISS". They are almost all identical with the exception of barrel mark. In the case of Eagle Arms it is a six shot while most of the others are five shot. They were an early attempt to circumvent the Rollin White bored through cylinder patent. They feature an octagon barrel with rib, nickel plated brass frame, spur trigger, square butt rosewood grips, solid cylinder with no flutes. Manufactured in the mid-1860's only. The butt on this revolver has the initials "APC" which could be a dealer. Top of the barrel is stamped "EAGLE ARMS CO NEW YORK". CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately 75% of the original high polish blue finish, as does cylinder. Frame retains approximately 30% original nickel. Grips are excellent. Indexes and operates perfectly. Strong, well defined rifling. What really makes this rare is that is comes in the original 1860's hinged green cardboard box marked "EAGLE ARMS" and shows a picture of the revolver. Inside the box is the instructions along with cleaning brush and three cartridges. Box shows wear, missing some green on apron, but the label is readable and mostly complete. This is the first we have ever seen of this model we have seen in the original box.
