This interesting higher grade 10 bore hammer gun has a capped pistol gripped butt that is checkered in a two point pattern with a skeleton buttplate that is checkered at the center. The sleeved barrels measure 31-3/4" long and have a plain top rib which is marked (almost illegibly) "Stephen Middleton, Maker" with address which is also near illegible. There is a small ring of engraving near the breech ends of the barrels. The hammer action with Jones Underlever is near full coverage engraved with scroll engraving that is tightly cut and well executed. Both lockplates are marked "James H. Valentine". The grip cap is of horn and there is a small silver oval near the toe. This gun also has finely sculpted fences and was certainly a high grade when new. CONDITION: Very good as partially restored. Stocks retain most of a professionally restored finish. The action has a trace or two of original color but is mostly gray. Stocks are sound. Mechanics are fine. Bores are leaded but will clean to very good.
