This fine Golden Age rifle is attributed to Leonard Reedy who worked in Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Rifle dates circa 1810-1815 and displays all of Reedy's signature characteristics. Octagon barrel with brass front sight and notched rear sight. Rifled bore. Hand forged lockplate with molded tail and beveled edges. Classic four piece brass patchbox in the classic Leonard Reedy style engraved with scrolls throughout. Classic brass Womelsdorf furniture with a decorated iron trigger. There is a silver wrist escutcheon with partially visible monogrammed initials and a silver half moon above the cheekpiece. Highly figured maple stock of classic Womelsdorf form with extensive incised and relief scrolls on both sides of the wrist, and classic Leonard Reedy scrolls behind the cheekpiece. Classic relief and incised scrolls designs around the barrel tang and on both sides of the ramrod entry ferrule. There are also relief panels around lock and sideplate. Complete with a replaced wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a heavy brown patina. Lock retains a brown patina and is in its original flintlock configuration. Brass retains and unpolished, dark patina. Silver inlays polished slightly. Stock shows some wear to carving and retains an orange hue. There is a small piece replaced in front of the buttplate tang and a small section around the ramrod channel towards the muzzle. Nosecap is probably a replacement. Stock shows scattered age cracks and marks from use. A very attractive, relief carved, Golden Age rifle by a desirable maker. DMG
