This spectacular factory engraved ivory gripped deluxe cased set of Colt 1851 Navies was owned by Peruvian Rosendo Velasco, brother of the nation's President. One of, if not the, finest pair of factory engraved silver plates Colt 1851 Navies known, the Velasco guns are true masterpieces of the engraver's art. Gun (A) Serial No. 58160 has an eagle on the left side of the barrel lug and another hidden in the scroll work on the left side of the frame. The barrel retains nearly all of its factory silver plating. Ramrod retains virtually all the factory silver plating, as does the frame. Rare steel trigger guard retains most of its original silver plating. Backstrap is mostly grey patina with factory inscription "Rosendo Velasco". Ivory grips are excellent with one longitudinal type crack to right side of grip. All screws are engraved with the exception of one trigger guard screw. Some pin safeties are intact. Cylinder retains nearly all its original silver plating. All numbers match. Gun (B) Serial No. 58158 has a wild cat engraved on the left side of the barrel lug. Barrel retains much of the original silver plating with losses mostly on the right side of the barrel. Cylinder retains nearly all the original silver plating, as does the frame and trigger guard. Backstrap retains much original silver plating. Ivory grips are excellent. Wedge screw is possibly replated, as is the butt screw. All other screws are engraved en suite. Pin safeties worn, hammer retains nearly all its original silver plating. Wedge is numbered "5280" and engraved en suite; all other numbers match. Ultra deluxe rosewood case of the highest quality brass bound with escutcheon engraved by the same hand. Interior with wine red velvet and full silver plated accessories including slant charger dog flask with much silver plating. Silver plated Colt's patent mold retains almost all original silver plating, four compartments with ivory pulls, James Dixon capper, packet of Sage cartridges and Eley cap tin. This magnificent and luxurious cased set was purchased in Jan. 1975 by renowned Dutch collector Henk Visser directly from Miguel Mujica Gallo, Lima Peru, owner of the Gold Museum. A letter to this effect signed by Mr. Visser accompanies these fabulous pistols. CORRECTION: barrel length is 7-1/2"
