Very heavy barreled Leman locked Plains rifle, barrel measuring nearly 1-1/4" across the flats and weighing 12 lbs. Massive octagonal barrel with a buckhorn style rear sight and blade front sight. The Leman lock is marked "Leman Lancaster PA" with rudimentary engraving. Walnut half stock with cheek piece of heavy design. Brass furniture and double set triggers. CONDITION: Barrel is in good condition with deep age brown patina. Lock has good markings. Hammer is possible replacement. The stock has a long crack on right side of forend, to be expected with such a heavy barrel, and a crescent brass buttplate. Double set trigger is functioning. Ramrod is replaced. Bore is fine and will clean better, with sharp well defined rifling. A good heavy Plains rifle circa 1860.
