Unmarked but New England style, possibly a New York made long range target rifle. Half round, half octagon barrel. .54 caliber. 14 groove rifling. Weighs 12 pounds 15 oz. Back action lock. German silver mounted with a running deer on the cheek rest and a deer with tree on the left side of the butt. The barrel has a dovetail for a rear sight, sight not present. 1 - 9/16 inch sight tube with an 11 inch long base extending over the wrist of the gun; barrel mounted with a screw. Hooded front sight. Light scroll engraving around the muzzle. The barrel measures 1 inch across at the muzzle and 1 - 1/8 inches across the flats towards the breech. Half stock, checkered wrist. Double set triggers work, extremely fine trigger when set. Hammer is a period replacement that has been modified to fall on the nipple. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing even age patina with some extremely light pitting on the barrel. Bore has good rifling showing some wear and light pitting. Wood has dings and light handling marks with a minor crack on the left side extending from the lock screw to the rear of the barrel. Good mechanical function. GR.
