Lot consists of (A) Peyret a Lyon signed diminutive boxlock muff pistol with turn off barrel including turnkey protrustion. St. Etienne smokeless proof on receiver. Patent breech. Push on safety. Wooden grips checkered with punch dot borders, florals on sidepanels with raised spine. Accompanied by an appropriately sized small wood box that is French fitted to gun and bag flask, which is unmarked but nicely repoussed with linework. CONDITION: Very good, polished at one point over some old oxidation. Metal with some other minor age stains. Wood is very good, with checkering with two distinct areas of softening from use. Accessories fine. (B) An impressively large muff pistol with an unusual .72 caliber bore with patent breech. top flat of octagonal barrel signed very indistinctly, looks to be "LONDON LONDON WATER LONDON" (?). Small bead front sight. Underside of barrel with British proofs and receiver / frame truing strikes. There is a broken screw shaft towards muzzle that may have been for a now absent forearm. German silver frame openable at top for access to mechanisms. Frame and trigger guard engraved throughout with acanthus scroll on shaded background. Butt with trap. Hammer indistinctly engraved en suite with frame. CONDITION: Good as cleaned and partly rehabilitated. Barrel and hammer with evidence of a rather thick old refinish obscuring some fine details. German silver cleaned with some patina still in protected areas. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with one area of pitting and even oxidation throughout. An attractive pair of muffs from both ends of the size spectrum. EW
