Lot consists of: (A) Richardson signed muff pistol with light floral engraving throughout. Octagonal barrel with diminutive bead front sight, notch rear integral with frame, signed "LONDON" across top flat. Two bands of silver at breech. British proofs on underside with "0367", "1243" on other flat. Hooked patent breech. Brass tipped ramrod is possibly the original and retained by single ferrule, with ramrod channel mouth of German silver. German silver nosecap and barrel key escutcheon. Back action percussion locks signed "RICHARDSON" at top. Dolphin form hammer. Trigger guard with pineapple finial. Wrist checkered in point pattern, swooping to wave at butt. German silver thumbpiece. Cap in butt. CONDITION: Very good as carefully preserved. Barrel has a layer of applied lacquer to protect finish. Metal is clean throughout with crisp engraving. Stock very good with a few spots of bruising. Action works appropriately when operated by hand, bore is excellent, with preservative grease throughout. (B) Monks signed boxlock muff pistol with engraved florals and scrolls throughout. Small bead front sight, notch rear integral to muzzle. Captive swivel ramrod. Normal British proofs. Dolphin form hammer on patent breech. Checkered wrist with flared butt. CONDITION: Very good as preserved. Barrel and metal have been carefully cleaned over old oxidation. Stock has been gently sanded and refinished with some softening as a result. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, although nipple is heavily oxidized, bore is very good with even oxidation throughout. A nice pair of attractive muff pistols. EW
