Marlin Model 1894 with shorter than normal barrel made by Marlin Firearms Company in 1896. Factory research states this rifle has a 24" octagon barrel, but now has a 20" octagon barrel. Barrel appears to be of factory length with no evidence of modification; possible research error or old professional job? Barrel is in original .32-20 caliber with silver blade front sight and Rocky Mountain rear adjustable sight. Case hardened receiver with plain trigger, marked on tang "MODEL 1894" and on top of action "MARLIN SAFETY". Half magazine. Plain walnut stock with crescent steel buttplate and matching plain forearm. CONDITION: Metal turning a brown patina with some light surface corrosion. Traces of fading case colors. 90% original varnish with light scratches and dings. Pitted bore with visible rifling and good mechanics. Good rifle with more research needed. DLM
