This is a 2nd Model manufactured in Chicopee Falls. The 2nd Model is referred to as the Model 1863 and was issued to Union Cavalry Regiments of the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee. This rifle was made without a forend. Has a walnut stock, saddle ring and bar, combat sight, center hammer. Two visible cartouche stamps on left side, "AJN" Augustus J. Noble and "JM" James Mills. CONDITION: Carbine has no original finish on metal and is basically grey-brown and freckled. Wood is excellent. Action is fine. Strong clean rifling. A lot of these are closet queens, but this has the look of a gun that was used as found.
