Right grip panel is scratched with matching serial number 2852, the left panel is factory stamped 3823, assembly number on butt is 3061, factory stamped number 382 on left grip. This is an early 2nd Model that features the scooped flute cylinder. Frame does not say "POCKET ARMY" and is simply being called that because of the short factory barrel. It is our assumption that this was a two barrel set and that the short barrel was installed and the long barrel lost, as all numbers match on frame, cylinder, barrel and grips. Most of the models made specifically for the 3-1/2" barrel only were stamped "POCKET ARMY" although there are still a lot of nuances when it comes to Merwins. Revolver is finished in factory with bird's head trip and skull crusher. Legends are stamped on left side of barrel and both sides of frame. CONDITION: Case colors on trigger guard have patterned out with traces on hammer. Grips are excellent to near mint with no chips. Revolver has overall edge wear but retains approximately 85% original factory nickel with sharp, readable legends. Indexes and locks up like a vault. Rifling is strong but bore does have some rough areas. Cylinder face is fairly clean which would indicate poor cleaning but not a lot of actual use. One of the most powerful pocket revolvers made at the time and have a storied history of our Western past. A man would still be amply armed today with this powerful short barrel revolver.
