Manufactured 1861-1865, this is a single shot .50 caliber percussion breech loader. The trigger releases the barrel and allows it to pivot downward for loading. Has iron mountings, blue finish, case hardened frame, walnut stocks, with sling ring mounted on left side of breech. Manufactured in Springfield by Am'N M'CH'N WKS. A favorite with the Union Cavalry, they were issued to the 3rd West Virginia, 7th and 11th Illinois, 1st Connecticut, 7th and 17th Pennsylvania, 6th and 9th Ohio, and 1st Massachusetts. Features octagon to round barrel, single band, folding leaf military sight, walnut stock, carbine butt. Left side of stock has a perfect JH inspector stamp for Joseph Hannis. Left side of barrel has inspector stamp LFR for Lafayette F. Rogers. CONDITION: Excellent, all original condition. Barrel retains approximately 90% blue with patina coming through finish, barrel band is basically brown patina. The top latch retains 75% of the nitre bright blue finish. 90% case colors on right side of frame, some bright. Left side of frame has turned dark and patterned out. Stock is very good to excellent, with some scattered oil stains. Cartouche is near mint. Bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling, like new.
