Perhaps the most spectacular casings in percussion Colt's are these extremely rare, factory engraved 1851 Navies in the 90000 range. Most, if not all, were sent to England and come complete with ultra deluxe engraved shoulder stocks. This set is very similar to the set on page 34 of the "Antique Arms Annual" and later featured in "Fine Colts, The Collection of Joseph Murphy". Still another set was recently sold at a Midwestern auction, formally in the collection of Robert M. Lee of Sparks, Nevada. These extremely rare and attractive cased sets all bear British proofs have elaborate British casings. Serial No. 90137 has much original bright bluing on barrel with spotting and lifting. Barrel has a dog head head engraved on the left side. Frame has faded case colors, somewhat vivid in protected areas. Cylinder retains some original bluing, turning to brown. Excellent scene. Lever has some case colors on outside, vivid on inside. Iron trigger guard has considerable original silver turning dark. Backstrap retains some original silver. Varnished walnut grip has considerable original varnish remaining, missing mainly where stock lug attaches. Cylinder safety pins; four good, two degraded. Attachable shoulder stock with matching number has much original silver with stock engraved en suite. Wood of stock retina nearly all the original varnish and is nearly perfect with minor marks. Original oak case with split ring in lid in fine condition and paper label in good condition. Accessories include Dixon flask marked "Colt Navy Flask" with nearly all original lacquer and bright gilding to top and spout, no dents; Colt's patented mold retains most original blue with hammer marks, original bright blue cleaning rod and Eley cap tin. Partitions are excellent and lining is excellent with only one small dime size tear. A spectacular and virtually untouched example of this very rare cased Navy. CORRECTION: Barrel length is 7-1/2"
