This was one of the premier large bore single shot rifles that competed with Sharps, Winchester and Ballard in the world of hunting and target shooting. Serial numbers for this model began at 1400. This sporting rifle features a Spirit level hooded front long range target sight, long range rear tang sight, part octagon barrel stamped "E REMINGTON & SONS ILIAD NEW YORK" on top flat, plain walnut stocks, metal forend tip and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Left side of frame has patent date stamps. CONDITION: Barrel has drifted to blue-brown patina with age freckling. Case colors on frame have patterned out. Block has the majority of its fire blue. Wood fits proud to metal and is in excellent condition. Strong, shiny bore and great action. Nice, honest, as found sporting rifle with addition long range sights. Rear stock was probably refinished at one time but nicely done and still proud to metal.
