The tapered round barrel is stamped with "US" on top, near breech. Left side stamped "P / (eagle head) / V". The flat lockplate has beveled edges and is stamped in center with an eagle over script "US", tang with arched "SPRINGFIELD" with the "L" only partially visible and "D" absent (stamp went too far past plate). Standard Type I furniture with buttplate tang dated "1801". Plain walnut stock stamped behind sideplate vertically "JFB". Original iron ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel shows a spotted brown patina with some pitting at breech. Lock has been reconverted to flintlock configuration, markings in center of plate are worn. Iron furniture retains a light grey patina with some darker areas. Stock is very good with some minor marks from use, one chip in front of lockplate. Edges are crisp and retains original finish with some crazing. DMG
