December 13-15, 2022 Collectible Firearms & Militaria
Manufactured in 1896 with 26" octagon barrel chambered in .38-55 WCF with German silver blade front sight and rifle rear sight. 1 piece walnut stock and forearm with rifle forearm cap and rifle buttplate. Left of barrel is aftermarket marked "US" on left barrel flat in large font. Stamped with the desirable "BROWNING BROS. CO. OGDEN. U" marking behind rear sight. Some collectors say these stamped rifles were payment for the design of the 1886 from Winchester, others say these were just rifles that were either repaired by Browning or sold by Browning; records are inconclusive on both. CONDITION: Good, as chemically blended to a blue-gray patina with scattered areas of heavy freckling and areas of heavy handling marks. Rear sight and magazine tube lug dovetails have been tightened via epoxy adhesive. Stock and forearm are replacements and are proud to both forearm cap and buttplate with no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine. Bore is dark with no visible rifling.
