This is a very nice untouched example of an American Revolutionary War used Charleville musket. It was most likely taken home by a soldier, hence the removal of the "U. STATES" brand on the underside of the buttstock. The barrel tang has a large "US" surcharge on the barrel tang and partially visible star over "D" on the left side of the breech. The lockplate is deeply surcharged with large "US" at the tail, center inscribed "Charleville". There is a star over "D" to the left of the pan. Standard Model 1766/68 iron furniture. Walnut stock of classic French form with carved out "U STATES" brand on bottom of buttstock. Left side of buttstock carved deeply with American initials "AW WA". Ramrod a modern replacement. CONDITION: All iron components have a dark brown patina. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration, doesn't hold on cock. Surcharge is crisp. Stock retains a dark dry surface with some thin splinters absent along barrel on both sides, towards muzzle. A very well-marked example with definitive American Revolutionary War battle use. DMG
