Octagonal section of barrel marked 'MN", "1851", "C" and "A" in lozenge, and "(Star) / M" proof on various flats. Barrel retained by brass strap which doubles as ramrod mouth. Captive ramrod retained by chain. Back action lock marked "Mre Nle de Chatellerault". Tang marked "Mle 1849". Appropriate small stamps throughout including belt hood, buttcap, backstrap, trigger guard, etc. Wood has numerous stamps in it including various proofs, and "BRIGAULD" and MN encircled by other characters, illegible.
