Made in England and retailed by J.P. Lovell of Boston, this interesting 16 gauge hammer gun features a ball grip stock that is nicely checkered around the action and in a wave pattern around the wrist. Fine Damascus barrels with well defined pattern. The full length matted top rib is marked "John P. Lovell Arms Co. Boston, Mass." The stocks appear to be of French walnut and have very nice grain pattern. The splinter forend is nicely checkered in wave pattern with Deeley release and ebony triangular tip. Action is engraved in typical "Eureka" Pattern with flying birds on each side near back of lockplates. Composition buttplate is fully checkered with stag at center. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain about 80% original Damascus pattern with some spotting and action retains about 40% original case color, mostly in protected areas. The stocks are excellent with scattered minor bumps and scratches and retain most of an ancient restored finish. The checkering is slightly thinned. Mechanics are good and bores good with some minor beginning orange peel. A very scarce gun in small bore. JSL18
