Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor single shot rifle with 32-5/8" round barrel chambered in .45-70 Government, Buffington rear sight with proper "R" marking, and blade front. Marked with "VP" over a screaming eagle on left side of barrel toward breech. 1-piece plain walnut stock with stacking swivels, cleaning rod, and military style buttplate marked "US" on upper tang. Stock has "SWP" inspector cartouche at left of stock on wrist, dated 1887 and "Circle P" proofmark on bottom of stock toward tang. CONDITION: Very good with minor freckling throughout from storage and balance of parts turned to a blue-grey patina. Stock is very good with numerous dents, dings and gouges from handling and use. Action works correctly and locks tightly. Bore is frosted with visible rifling. -TN-
