The Schofield was issued in two models, the 1st and 2nd Models. This is a 2nd Model manufactured 1876 to 1877, for issue to the United States Cavalry. Very similar to the Smith & Wesson American. It is a large caliber, top break, six shot, fluted cylinder, single action with blued finish, case colored hammer, and two piece walnut grips. Butt has "US" stamp. Barrel has inspector stamp "E". Cylinder has matching number. Right side of barrel has Schofield patent, left side Smith & Wesson. Left grip has barely visible cartouche (not readable). CONDITION: Extremely clean, all original, untouched revolver that is basically a smooth homogeneous patina overall. Razor sharp legends. 14 kill notches at butt which gives over to ones imagination as to the actual history of this revolver. Beautiful, strong rifled bore with very minor residue. Indexes and locks up like new. Very handsome example of an Indian Wars Martial revolver.
