Caliber .50-70 government, Barrel length 32-1/2”. Lock is stamped “US Springfield” with Eagle and dated 1864. Breech block is stamped “1866” with eagle head. Has the “ESA” cartouche in oval on left side, visible but partially obscured. Two barrel bands stamped “U”, butt plate stamped “US”, left side of stock stamped “Wayne”, right side appears to have the same stamp but partially obscured. Metal is a dark grey patina. Wood is very good with usual bumps and abrasions. Strong rifle bore, fine action. Fairly typical conversion Trapdoor, patented by Allen utilizing both new and left over parts. The rear sight and breech block were actually from an 1866 rifle and were probably used on this rifle from parts cleanup.
