Manufactured circa 1886. Standard blued 20" round barrel chambered in .45-70 with faint "V / P" proofs. Blade front sight and "R" marked Buffington rifle rear with Model 1890 style barrel band designed to protect the the sight. Replacement low arch breech block marked "US / MODEL / 1873". Lock plate marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" with Federal eagle motif. 1-piece plain walnut stock fit with a saddle ring bar, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked trap butt plate. CONDITION: Overall very good, displaying well. Significant amounts of reapplied and arsenal finish are retained throughout with some areas drifting to a pleasing brown patina. Stock has been lightly sanded with no visible cartouche. Fine, strong bore showing well defined rifling. Crisp mechanics. BAS
