Manufactured in 1885. Round 32-5/8” barrel secured by two steel barrel bands and marked with “V P (eagle’s head) P” forward of breech block with an “A” stamped on top in .45-70 caliber rifled bore. Front bayonet lug sight, rear sight 1873 type. Casehardened tang and breech block marked “US MODEL 1873”. Lock plate marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” and stamped with eagle motif forward of hammer. Blued steel furniture, butt plate marked “US” on tang and serrated trigger. Walnut stock, angled-corner cartouche dated “1885”, steel cleaning rod. Good condition, retains some blue on lock, hammer screw marred, steel components mostly turned brown, markings very good and breech block with case colors in protected areas and on tang, scattered marks from use, markings very good. Stock with some minor crack behind lock plate, initials carved into left side near breech and scattered marks from use. Excellent cartouche. Butt plate with rust and scattered pitting. Bore very good with some lightly frosted areas.
