Westley Richards Monkey Tail paper cartridge percussion carbine made for the commercial market. 24" round barrel in .451 caliber marked with an Alex Henry (retailer) barrel address. Lock is marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO." and is dated 1862. Barrel is also marked ".483" / "453" near breech. Front sight is missing and appears to have been a globe-type sight. Provision for what is probably a volley rear sight on left flat of stock. One-piece plain walnut stock with two barrel bands, a front sling swivel, and a rear sling swivel stud near trigger guard and is complete with iron nosecap and blued iron buttplate with storage compartment (compartment is empty). Checkered trigger and hammer. CONDITION: Excellent for its age, retaining a large majority of its original bluing with scattered handling marks and areas of light pitting. Stock is excellent as heavily cleaned and finish added with dents and dings throughout from handling but is strong with no major cracks. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand and is tight. Bore is bright with crisp rifling. TON
