Circa 1911. A vintage London built game gun with 29" chopper lump nitro proofed blacked barrels. Barrels are fit with ejectors, 2 - 1/2" chambers, and smooth concave tapered rib. Rib with small round steel front bead sight. Rib reads "BOSS & CO, 13, DOVER STREET.PICADILLY.LONDON.W.". "3" in gold. Bottom of barrels stamped "5940" (guns serial number) and "BOSS". Barrel flats with early London proofs, "NITRO PROOF", "1 1/8", and "12 / C" in diamond. Chokes are Cylinder in left barrel and Improved Cylinder in right. The blue grey patina side lock action with Boss's scrolls and bouquet pattern is built with gold line cocking indicators, single inertia (triple pull) trigger, blacked, engraved, and checkered top lever, engraved and checkered safe slide. "SAFE" in gold. Top lever is inlaid with a "3" in gold. Gun is not auto safe. Side lock action reads "BOSS'S PATENT" and "BOSS & CO." in banner. "BOSS'S PATENT No.11378" is engraved at base of bottom action. The right hand rolled edged blacked engraved trigger guard is engraved with scroll and extends to a full length bottom strap which is engraved with scrolls and the guns serial number "5940". The dirty blonde and straight smoky grained stock with tightly checkered English straight hand grip and drop points is finished by a checkered butt. Splinter forend with matched semi-smooth checkering, engraved diamond shaped pin, engraved iron metal, engraved escutcheon with gold inlaid "3", and Anson push release. Blacked interior iron metal with guns serial number "5940". Gun lives is a neat vintage violin styled leather case with replacement paper trade label, cleaning rod, glass oil bottle and cleaning tools. CONDITION: Good. Barrels retain approximately 80% original black with handling marks and a bit of frosting at muzzles. Action is sound. Trigger is crisp and ejectors are strong. Stock is good as replacement and with some handling marks. Forend is good with some handling marks, minor nicks and dings. Case is good with evidence of use and wear.
