British L42 A1 Bolt Action sniper rifle with scope and transit chest. Stock socket dated "1944" with "M 47 C" indicating BSA production. "T" and "TR" stamps on the receiver and socket remain, having being converted from a No.4 MK1 T sniper rifle. Conversion looks to have been done in 1975. Small import mark "GEMCO,PRINCETON NJ" under the barrel in font of the stock. Socket, bolt and scope base are all serial matching. Stock and magazine are not matching. Correct scope marked "TEL.STRT.STG.L1A1". Scope is dated "1945" with its original designations being lined out. Rings are correctly matched to each other. Scope number is "28017". Rifle retains its correct factory adjustable rear sight and mounted check piece. Typical black paint finish on the barrel, receiver and scope. Oil finish wood stock with brass butt plate. Includes leather scope caps, scope carrying tin (numbered to the scope 28017 and rifle L32054) and wood transit chest (numbered to the rifle by an importer sticker). CONDITION: Rifle retains 85% of its paint finish with a few areas of wear and handling marks. Stock is very good with minor dents, scratches and handling marks. There is an arsenal repair on the comb of the stock, in front of the butt plate. Clean bore with excellent rifling left. Mechanically fine. Scope has significant finish wear, but is clear. Scope case, lens covers and transit chest are all very good. JWA
