SCHILLING. IN SUHL" in gold. Tubes are marked " "MADE ESPECIALLY FOR LANGDON C. HENRY" " on right, and "V. CHR. SCHILLING SUHL-GERMANY" on left, with steel designations. Triangles of well cut scroll at breeches, which are relieved for sideclips. Barrel flats with German proofs for Suhl, Nitro, 2 - 3/4" shells, etc. Dovetail lumps, marked "VCS" in a lozenge on left side for Schilling. Greener crossbolt. Splinter forearm with horn tip, lightly schnabled, with Deely release. Intrusions into fine checkering in the form of oak leaves. Iron engraved with scroll and strapwork. Interior iron is engine turned. 25" barrels are in near identical configuration, excepting tube legends which one have steel designation legends and not the "Made Especially For..." legends. Proofed with 20 gauge, 2 - 3/4", nitro proofs and a "GERMANY" export proof. Boxlock action with cocking indicators, recoil shields with lovely relief cut acanthus scroll, sides with pheasants in a meadow on left, ducks in a marshland on right. Balance is well cut scroll with interspersed floral vignettes. Automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold. Gold washed double triggers protected by a horn trigger guard. Sidepanels taper to points and are decorated with ebony points. Pistol grip stock with 2 panels of checkering at the wrist with intrusions at either end in relief carved oak leaves. Horn grip cap. Shadowline cheekpiece. Restrained, somewhat smokey, lightly fiddledbacked stock ends in a brown White Line recoil pad. Housed in a mahogany colored leather-wrapped Emmebi case with compartments for both barrels, action, and accessory compartment. CONDITION: Barrels are excellent and retain the vast majority of their bluing, some very minor marks from handling and the field, visible solder at the rib that does not detract. Action has traces of case color hardening in the protected areas, balance essentially dove grey. Engraving is crisp and well cut. Gold wash is starting to lift, particularly where fingers would rest while shooting. Stock is very good, checkering refreshed, with some handling marks and dings from the field but strong and whole. Mechanically fine, excepting ejectors, which are out of time and fire right first. Bores are excellent with some light evidence of use. Case excellent.
