Lot consists of a Type 38 carbine and a Type 38 bolt action rifle. (A) Type 38 carbine manufactured by Koishikawa. Chrysanthemum is intact. Matching numbers include the receiver, bolt, extractor, safety, and floorplate. Firing pin has been renumbered to match. Bolt extractor appears to be refinished. The stock appears to have been lightly sanded and refinished. Complete with a 1943 dated Milsco M1 Garand sling and cleaning rod. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their arsenal and reapplied finishes, with thinning showing through to patina on the receiver, barrel, and barrel bands. Bore is bright, showing some light corrosion, but otherwise retaining strong rifling throughout. Stock retains some scattered handling and storage marks all around, and retains the majority of it's reapplied varnish. (B) Type 38 rifle manufactured by Koishikawa. Chrysanthemum has been scrubbed and touched up with cold bluing. No matching numbers. Assembly number "901" with the kanji symbol for "5" (Ho) as a prefix is present on the bayonet lug, inside of the floorplate, bolt stop, and on the back of the rear sight. The canvas sling appears to be a handcrafted Japanese replacement, as it is stitched onto the forward sling swivel and bears the remnants of a Japanese naval anchor insignia. Cleaning rod is not present. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their arsenal applied and reapplied blue finishes, showing some scattered wear. Nice bright bore with good rifling throughout. Stock shows some scattered indentations and handling marks. MLW
