Class 1 special order Model 70 Standard Carbine made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1947. Gun is chambered in special ordered 7.92mm (8mm Mauser) and is one of 7,197 carbines made between 1936 and 1947. This gun is also rare since it is a Type II Transition Model, which were only made between serial numbers 60,500 to 87,700 in Standard actions. Gun has a blued 20" Winchester Proof Steel barrel with correct Style No. 2 hooded ramp front sight and correct Winchester 22G adjustable rear sight; barrel marked with Winchester address, "-MODEL 70- 7.92 M/M" stamping, and correctly dated and marked "8mm 41" on underside. Matted finish Type II receiver with no cartridge slot, rear factory drilled bridge, serial numbered 74299 with electropenciled serial numbered matching bolt. Bolt has correct solid head handle with flattened stem and "4" inspector's mark with transition style 3-position safety. Standard walnut low comb pistol grip stock with correct 18 lines-per-inch checkering, checkered steel buttplate, loop sling swivels, and blued steel detachable floorplate. CONDITION: 98% blue with slight edge wear on floorplate. Bolt handle knob starting to fade to silver from handling. 95% original varnish with light handling and usage marks and flaking at the edges. Excellent bore and mechanics. A correct super rare configuration in great honest condition.
