1 of only 4,000 Bergmann Simplex pistols manufactured in total between V.C. Schilling and Belgium in the early 1900s. The left flat of the faceted receiver is stamped "PATENT/ BREVETE/ S.G.D.G." with a double crown over "U" proof present over the top flat of the chamber area, which is also present on the rear of the bolt assembly. Underside of barrel bears a "(Crown)/ N" commercial nitro proof. 1-piece checkered hard rubber grip is marked "SIMPLEX" on either side. Major metal components exhibit a lustrous dark blue finish, while some smaller components are strawed or nitre blued. Bolt body has been nitre blued at one point in time. Barrel is unusual in that it does not feature a solid rib and instead features a blade front sight that is dovetailed onto a square sight block, which is extremely reminiscent of Bergmann's No. 5 pistol. All matching numbers and include the frame, trigger, bolt, bolt knob, firing pin, as well as on the rear sight/bolt retainer. CONDITION: Major metal components retain bountiful amounts of what appears to be their period professionally reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of mild thinning showing through to brown patina, some minor "freckled" losses from cleaned surface oxidation, as well as some areas of very light surface level pitting overall. Stamps and commercial proofs are sharp. Strawed and nitre blued components are excellent, as reheated at one point in time. Mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well defined lands and grooves throughout. Grip is very good overall, showing some smoothing to the checkering and few minor marks from storage and handling. Right side of grip panel has had a section removed around one of the frame screws to allow for clearance to the screw.
