Springfield Model 1898 Bolt Action rifle with 30" round barrel chambered in .30-40 Krag (.30 Army). Model 1901 rear sight and blade front. Plain, wooden one-piece stock with forearm cap with stacking swivel and bayonet lug complete with military buttplate. "Circle P" proofmark on bottom of wrist and "JSA" inspector cartouche dated 1902. CONDITION: Excellent with almost all of the original blue finish remaining on barrel. Receiver is an even dark gray patina with side plate a mottled, light, dove gray patina. Almost all fire blue remaining on extractor. Some finish loss at trigger guard and scattered handling and storage marks throughout. Stock is very good with dents and dings from handling and use but remains original. Deep gouge at comb of stock. Action works correctly and locks tightly. Bore is bright and shiny with sharp lands and grooves. -TN-
