Winchester 1897 trench style slide action shotgun with bayonet. Appears to have been built from a Winchester Model 1897 riot gun and a Winchester Model 1897 trench gun heat shield and bayonet assembly. Action and take down assembly were made 1941. Barrel is dated "42" on the underside. "U.S." markings and flaming ordnance mark on the left hand side of the receiver are correct. Proofs on the barrel, including the flaming bomb are also present and correct. Stock bears a boxed "WB" with crossed cannons underneath. Bayonet assembly is marked "W". Round smooth bore barrel with front bead sight. Original Winchester high gloss finish has turned to a nice patina throughout. Original hardwood stock set with hard plastic "Winchester" marked butt plate. Cylinder choke bore, 2 - 3/4" chamber. Includes unmarked web sling and a "1917" dated "W" (Winchester) marked bayonet, scabbard and frog. CONDITION: Metal retains little to none of its original finish with areas of wear and patina. Stock is very good with minor handling marks and scratches. Bore is clean. Mechanically fine. Bayonet and sling are very good with light wear. JWA
