Group industries Browning Model 37 registered sideplate fitted to a Colt Model 1928 commercial Browning water cooled machine gun. Essentially a Browning Model 1917A1 with a different flash hider. Headspace and timing gauge included with this lot. After World War I, Colt had a significant number of Browning water-cooled machine gun parts leftover. In an effort to capitalize on them, they marketed the “Colt Commercial Model of 1928” worldwide. South America purchased a significant number with associated tripods. Other countries did also. Many decades later, some of these were imported back into the United States as parts kits, and many were assembled onto registered sideplates and sold. Others were made into semi-automatic guns. This specimen has a flip safety switch at trigger. As a marketing tool, some of these sideplate guns were professionally engraved with very attractive Colt markings on the right sideplate, as this one is. Bolt is in the white and unmarked on top. Electronic NFA registry indicates “BROWN, MICHAEL DBA GROUP INDUSTRIES” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Wood grips are bruised on right side, but this does not affect serviceability. Overall finish and appearance is near excellent lustrous blue refinish upon remanufacture with some slight marks, barely discernible under the finish. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. A very attractive looking Browning with no dents in the water jacket, and with bronze end cap and trunnion. A fabulously attractive water-cooled Browning. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4.
