This is a factory original matching numbered Russian RP-46 machine gun manufactured in 1948, that, according to the consignor, was a bring-back gun from Viet Nam. Visible serial numbers match. Bipod, sling, and original cleaning kit in buttstock are present and included with this gun. Other accessories include 22 standard steel Russian ammunition cans, each with a 250 round steel belt, and two flip-top Russian ammunition cans. The RP-46 was a developmental follow-on to the DP-27 and DP-M machine guns which were originally designed to use pan magazines. Very soon after World War II, the Russians developed an adapter kit that allowed the use of Russian steel Maxim belts in these models. The next logical progressive step was this model, purpose built at the factory to utilize steel Maxim belts. It was the “lighter” more portable belt-fed machine gun support weapon that filled the gap between the water-cooled Maxim and the SG-43 machine guns. Electronic NFA registry indicates "RUSSIAN FEDERATION" as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and is near excellent original dark blue finish with very little loss of finish. Close inspection indicates this gun has been shot very little. Wooden handles are near excellent. Buttstock has some handling marks but remains extremely fine to near excellent. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is near excellent. This is a rare opportunity to own an extremely scarce Russian machine gun in museum level condition. Pretty much impossible to upgrade the condition and quality of this specimen. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2024-12-87.
