Exquisitely executed rebuild of an original Colt “PROPERTY OF U.S. GOVT.” “M16A1” marked machine gun. Colt rampant logo on left side of magazine well with factory applied “COLT AR-15” markings. One original Colt 20 round magazine, and one 30 round magazine included as well as an operator's manual and black military web sling. This gun features triangular handguards, full bird cage muzzle break, and bolt forward assist. Buttstock is of the very early type with hard bakelite and rounded edged buttplate. Consignor states that this rifle’s lower assembly was cut and discarded by the U.S. Government, after which John Stemple rebuilt it and registered it as fully transferable. Upon close inspection one can discern where the left side of the magazine well was rebuilt. There is a discoloration to the finish running vertically down the entire length through the center of the Colt horse in the logo all the way down through the “A” in the word “SERIAL” number. The appropriate characters were re-cut upon this remanufacture. Exquisitely executed work. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish extremely fine to near excellent as refinished upon remanufacture with correct looking dark finish on lower assembly. Upper assembly has a somewhat lighter sheen, with some loss of finish to the high edges. Barrel is marked “CMP CHROME BORE”. Left handguard has a 1 1/2 “ blemish on bottom side at midpoint bottom with a couple other light handling marks. Hard bakelite buttstock with early style sling swivel extremely fine with some handling marks. Magazine has lost nearly all its finish to a gray metal sheen. Bore is near excellent shiny and bright. Bolt is extremely fine. Gas tube needs a cleaning. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. A really nice M16A1 whose buttstock harkens back to the Viet Nam Era. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 18-56
