Scarce, highly charismatic, mid-production Mauser 712 with third variation Westinger switch, ten and twenty shot magazines, original stock, cleaning rod, in a presentation case. Mauser made approximately 100,000 Schnellfeuers in several slightly different configurations. This mid production gun has a 5-1/2" barrel, fixed front sight, and 50-1000 slip-in rear sight. Standard three line chamber marking with Crown/Crown/U on left chamber flat. Full serial number on left side of barrel extension that has solid rails. Third variation, thick base, Westinger switch mounted on left side of frame with N(Semi-Auto) and R (Full Auto) detents adjacent to small Mauser banner. Universal safety. Late three line address on right frame as found on the more commonly encounter M1930 Commercial pistols. Late grooved panels. Original lanyard ring. All major and minor components salt blued, with fire blued grip screw. Disassembly confirms all matching components with frame numbered 5479 on forward lip, locking block numbered 5479 on upper surface, and unnumbered "R" marked locking block, all as correct for this variation. Accompanied by two original Schnellfeuer magazines having large Mauser banner on detachable base. Correct Schnellfeuer shoulder stock, with Mauser banner, unnumbered lug with square shoulder, internally grooved for magazine lips and selector. Reproduction cleaning rod. Recently made canvas covered attache/presentation case with leather reinforced corners, gold plated hardware, leather handle, combination locks, lined with purple velour, and compartmentalized for pistol, stock, and smaller accessories. CONDITION: Pistol with 95% or better bright original salt blue finish with usual wear around barrel, mainly right side, and forward rails. Minimal wear on extractor, sight cursor, bolt stop, and trigger and front strap; back strap thinned where attached to stock lug. Comparable condition grips showing scattered dings and light staining. Mirror bright bore with strong rifling. Perfect manual mechanics when tested with both ten and twenty shot magazines. Stock body and lid have been extensively refurbished with good-very good original hinge and stock lug. Cleaning rod and attache case near new. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. A wonderful, all original, Schnellfeuer with both lengths of magazine, correct stock, attractively presented with newly made cleaning rod and modern presentation case. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. LA CORRECTION: We have been asked to document all specific areas of wear. It is always subjective when someone give an overall percentage of original finish. Suffice to say, it would be nearly impossibly to find a better example as there are none that survive in 100% condition with no external wear of any kind. That said, on the left side of the barrel there is a brown toned 3/4" line blending with the blue finish with some light age freckling on the right side of the barrel; judging by the toning and the freckling, it has been on there for a long time, most likely from the wooden stock. There is a touch of muzzle wear where it has toned. The rails of the slide, much like the Luger, where the touch points would have interacted with the wooden stock, resulting in light 3/4" finish loss from contact on the forward section of both rails. There is a touch of wear forward of the right bolt stop. Rear of grip strap where stock would slide on and off has some high edge rail wear. There is also wear beneath the selector switch, caused simply by moving from semi-automatic to fully automatic, much like the takedown line on a Colt 1911. There are a couple spots of wear on the bottom of the matte finish magazine. Some light high edge wear at the rear of the frame. One could argue whether this detailed description of finish loss is 5% or 2% of the total blued surface area, technically if all these spots of wear were subtracted from a 100% flat surface, it would probably total less then 2% of total area as the wear is exactly where it should be at contact points. To not have this wear, the gun would have to virtually never been in a holster, never been used, and selector switch remain in one position nearly its entire life. This pistol was examined by noted authority Len Antaris, one of the foremost experts on semi-automatic pistols, and has been deemed 100% original and untouched in any way. It would be nearly impossible to find an example of this rare pistol in better condition, unless you were to find one that had been put away, unfired, where it would have rested for nearly 100 years.
