Built by Colt in the mid-1870's, they were manufactured using leftover Model 1849 percussion old model pocket revolvers and were transformed using the new solid "S" shape barrel. The original 1849 cylinders were converted for centerfire with the brass trigger guard and backstrap that are usually plated, and one piece walnut grips. This example represents a manufactured revolver, not a technical conversion, as there are matching serial numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder. Cylinder has the original stagecoach scene. Revolver is manufactured without loading gate. It is a five shot, single action. All metal is basically grey-brown patina. Brass is dull. Grips are excellent to near mint. Indexes and locks up correctly. Strong, near mint bore.
