This classic 1896 manufactured Saddle Ring Carbine with the standard 20" barrel has a rifle pattern buttstock with crescent butt and provision for cleaning rod. This carbine shows evidence of possible Native American Indian usage with a modified forearm to allow for the attaching of a shoulder strap for carry. The evidence of forearm wear from extensive carrying as well as being totally void of having any metal finish, this is in an indication the rifle spent its entirety in the outdoors and was exposed to the elements but well cared for. The mechanics are smooth and properly functioning and the bore is very good with several minor areas of darkness. This carbine was purported as having come from the Livingston, Montana area by its former owner. The large Indian population and vast ranches of the region support the belief of possible Native American Indian usage. A rather unique piece of Western American heritage.
