HIGH QUALITY FOUR BORE HEAVY FOWLER BY FISHER CONVERTED TO PERCUSSION. FISHER F/L CONV FOWLER 203 4 BORE Cal. 4 Bore. .901 Bore diameter. Most likely made by the well regarded Thomas Fisher of 204 Holborn St. London. This well made old gun has 41" twist bbl with exceptionally heavy breech section measuring 1.92". This area is also filed with three flats, top flat extended with engraving to starburst. "FISHER LONDON" is inlaid in gold and there are three gold bands around breech. Bbl tapers to 1.95" at muzzle, and is fitted with under rib holding greenheart ramrod with large tulip head and worm under cap on brass tail. Breech section has been converted to percussion with typical drum and nipple. Breech iron is very nicely engraved with semi-relief flowers and acanthus. Large lock has been converted from flint with removal of pan, etc. and addition of early style flat faced percussion hammer nicely engraved to match floral engraving on lockplate. Plate has rebated tail ending in teat, and is engraved "FISHER". Trigger plate has stylized pineapple finial. Trigger guard has game scene engraving on bow. Very heavy, figured European walnut buttstock measures 14" over steel buttplate, and features abrupt checkered pistol grip with spiral carved knob, right hand cheekpiece having two shadow lines with ogee transition. Nose cap is of silver. Stock attaches to bbl with two captive side nails through silver escutcheons of truncated rectangular form. Drop at heel: 2-5/8", drop at comb: 1-9/16". Weight: 16 lbs. 14 oz. LOP: 14". CONDITION: Good. Bbl is of mottled brown patina overall. Lock surfaces are smooth gray patina. Other furniture is mostly brown patina. Stock retains a considerable amount of what appears to be its orig French polish, with considerable chips, marks and scratches. Bore is good, mostly smooth.
