SCARCE ITHACA "7E FLUES" TRAP GUN WITH BEAVERTAIL FOREND AND 34 INCH BARRELS. ITHACA SXS GRADE 7 FLUES 276804 12ga MODERN; C&R Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 34-3/8" Special order bbls with flat, matted, slightly raised rib, are engraved "Ithaca Gun Co" and "Ithaca, N. Y." on tops. Breech ends are engraved with 1-1/2" of interwoven olive leaves and olives with shaded backgrounds. Engine turned bbl flats are stamped with SN and grade. Loop is set far forward to accommodate long heavy forend. Case hardened Flues action has non-automatic safety and gold-plated dbl triggers. Action is engraved in typical "Grade 7" style, with near full coverage interwoven olive leaves and olives within geometric borders, surrounding two-color gold inlaid game scenes on sides; two mallards, one in yellow gold, the other in red, take wing from pond with gold cattails, on left. Right side depicts two pheasant, one in red gold, the other in yellow. Bottom of action has gold inlaid heraldic eagle under "MADE IN USA" engraved on riband. Trigger guard has more leaves and olives surrounding portrait of mule deer buck in gold. SN is at grip. Nicely flame crotch figured American walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over open sided white line pad. Side panels are checkered and have fleur-di-lis intrusions. Checkering at grip is of fancy pattern with many panels and fleur-di-lis separated by broad ribbons, with some flourishes toward comb and butt. Matching very large and long beavertail ejector forend has inset ebony tip and push-button release. This unusual forend appears to be completely original to this gun, with extra long iron which is scroll engraved, with SN and grade. Bore diameter: left -.729, right - .729. Bore restrictions: left - .035 (full), right - .036 (full). Wall thickness: left - .035, right - .030. Drop at heel: 2-1/8", drop at comb: 1-9/16". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 9 lbs. 15 oz. LOP: 14-1/4". PROVENANCE: The Collection of Jim Beckley. CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain 70 - 80% of what appears to be their orig blue, but may be an old re-blue, thinning overall. Action retains traces of orig color where protected, but is mostly pewter gray, engraving remains clear. Stocks retain nearly all of an old light oil refinish, with a number of subsequent light marks, checkering possibly freshened. Bores are excellent with some light striations. Action is a touch loose. Bbls are slightly off face. Ejectors are in time. A neat old high end special order Ithaca. 50632-3 MGM135 (7,500-12,500)
