SHARPS NEW MODEL 1865 CARBINE CONVERSION WITH TACK DECORATION. SHARPS NEW MODEL 1865 73851 50-70 Cal. 50-70. 22" bbl, blue and case color finish, straight grain American walnut stocks with steel carbine buttplate. Bbl shows remnants of model mark that was polished off during conversion. Bbl has standard carbine sights; front sight blade is replaced, rear sight is Lawrence Patent ladder type. Military inspector initials appear on various parts. Lock shows Lawrence Patent mark behind hammer and Sharps Patent mark to the rear. Left side of receiver shows remnants of Sharps Patent mark. Upper tang is stamped with SN. Buttstock is decorated with brass tacks on right side. Decoration runs in a straight line from the wrist into the middle of a circle of tacks. Tack decoration around right side of buttplate. Forend has three brass tacks on each side. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl shows a silver/grey patina overall with some slight roughness toward the muzzle. Bbl mark is faintly visible. Rear markings are clear. Bore is bright. Receiver and lock show a smooth, mottled grey patina overall with some slight hint of case color around hammer. Patent marks on lock are clear and sharp. Patent mark on receiver is slightly washed out. SN on tang is sharp. Stocks very good, intact and show handling marks and dents overall with what appears to be a burn mark on the left side. Lock and buttplate screws are replacements. Mechanics are crisp. An attractive, decorated Sharps carbine from the Indian War period. 52552-2 TEP (2,000-3,000)
