SUPERB SMITH & WESSON FIRST MODEL AMERICAN SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. SMITH & WESSON NO 3 5707 44 AMERICAN Cal. 44 RUSSIAN. 8" bbl. Blue finish overall with nickel silver pinned front sight and traditional rear sight at latch. Serial number 5707 was manufactured between 1870-1872 and has an assembly number #97 found on frame, cylinder and bbl under latch. These were the first large caliber Smith & Wessons to be successfully marketed. They were used extensively and are rarely found in good condition. Later adopted by the US military and many governments abroad including Russia, Argentina and Cuba. Reports of these guns having been used and associated with the Battle of Little Big Horn. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine overall with almost all blue finish remaining and approximately 20% finish loss is noted on cylinder and forward section of bbl balance turning to a somewhat plum. Bore is excellent with sharp rifling and excellent chambers. Mechanics are crisp and function properly. This is numbers matching revolver. 53094-4 TDW (7,500-9,500)
